About West Midlands Hindu Forum
On 4th May 2019, 15 Hindu Community Leaders from across the West Midlands attended a meeting at B2022 Commonwealth games offices in Birmingham to hear about the opportunities the forth coming games will provide and how we can share the information with our community.
The meeting decided that we should organise ourselves, form a structure or a committee that could represent all Hindu’s thereby providing one united Hindu voice.
We had subsequent meetings, but nothing transpired until Covid-19 Lockdown. Navratri 2020 could not be celebrated in Mandirs and community halls across the country as we would normally. Instead, we celebrated via zoom connecting celebrations at various people’s homes with 20 Hindu Mandir’s and organisations.
Navratri was so successful that a month later we celebrated Diwali 2020 also on zoom but by this time we gathered 30 Hindu Mandirs and organisations. The Mayor of West Midlands and the Consulate General for India were joint guest of honour who opened the celebrations with Anita Bhalla, former BBC presenter and section editor comparing the event. Highlight has to be the College of Vedic Studies Birmingham coordination of young children from various Mandirs and communities taking part in re-enacting Ram Katha. See Video here.
Soon after this on 18th April 2021 West Midlands Hindu Forum committee was elected and on 14th November 2021 WMHF Constitution was adopted. See elected committee here.
The committee represented our community at the B2022 at various games meetings and events. Culminating in nominating 6 Hindu chaplains from our community to form 30 strong, five faith-based chaplaincies working during the games from 28th July to August 2022. See photo gallery here.
